Ming is a Red Panda living in the bamboo forests of China. He shares his habitat with the black and white Giant Panda and thinks of himself as one of them. But little Ming weighs only 7 lbs, no bigger than a house cat.
He's reddish-orange with big white ears and a striped, bushy tail as long as his body! He wraps himself in his tail for protection from the cold and uses it for balance while he swings around in trees like a little acrobat.
Sometimes you might see Ming munching on blossoms or berries but bamboo is his favorite. He dips his furry paws in puddles and licks the water off when he drinks. He spends most of his time sleeping though, so if you see him curled up on a branch, you can bet he's napping and dreaming of one day being big.
Ming and the other Red Pandas are being hunted for their fur. There are laws against this now, but there are some bad people who just don't care. Other people don't realize that they're hurting these incredible creatures just as badly by clearing the forests which they live in.
The name "Ming" means "bright" and has a long history in China. "Ming" is short for “Ming Tian”, which means "tomorrow." So please help Ming and his fellow Pandas continue to have that tomorrow.
